What Happens When We “Imagine If”

This is the fourth installment in the Every Monday Matters series. UW Combined Fund Drive is partnering with Every Monday Matters, a nonprofit committed to inspiring a new normal where people understand how and why they matter to themselves, the community and the world.

Imagination is magical. Think about it. A lot of what exists in our world today started in someone’s imagination. In other words, we have the ability to see something that never existed. We could see the automobile before we built it. We could imagine ourselves walking on the moon before we took our first step. We could visualize ourselves pursuing a career, getting married or having a family. In other words, significant things are first created in our imagination. Listening to our head and our heart helps us envision new images, realities and possibilities.

What can you see? What’s in your head and heart? What can you create? This week, we want you to complete the sentence, “Imagine if…” Maybe you envision a more loving world. Maybe it is a healthier family life or stronger friendships. Or maybe it is a new way of learning for our youth or a new technology that makes travel faster, safer and more environmentally friendly. Every Monday Matters and the UW Combined Fund Drive imagine a new normal where people understand how much they matter. How about you? Imagine if. Go ahead and finish the sentence and see what can be accomplished.

Here are some ways to do it:

Low. Take a few minutes this week to “imagine if.” Maybe it is a personal breakthrough or an idea for your family or community. Try to envision at least one thing you would love to see happen.

Medium. Take some time to write about your “imagine if” idea. Go ahead and visualize your idea deeply. If it helps, close your eyes. Really feel it. Think it through. What steps would make your idea a reality? Then write it down.

High. Do an “imagine if” activity with your colleagues. Maybe it’s an idea that will propel your business. Or maybe it’s something that impacts the internal culture at work. Take it on as a group. Use shared imagination.

Giving Matters: Thank You for Making a Difference
When you give, you imagine the impact you’ll make. The UW community came together during the UW Combined Fund Drive campaign and gave in a big way, raising $2,282,731 for local, national, and international nonprofits. Your generosity helped make this year’s campaign the most successful to date. Imagine the difference we’ve made!

MLK Day 2017
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is fast approaching. Imagine how you can make a difference by volunteering on January 16. Need ideas on where to help out? Visit the UW Combined Fund Drive volunteer page to search for opportunities near you.
